Look at the subtlety of this cover. We have Ororo and Panther’s wedding with everyone there, at the back, teary-eyed. Another happily married couple, of course there’s a celebration. But is that really what this cover is celebrating? Civil War Cease-fire. Who are the ones actually ceasing fire? If you removed Storm and Panther from the platform, what picture do we get? Everyone looking at Tony and Steve as if the two have finally been reconciled. And that’s just the surface. Where’s the symbolism? We have the two key players of Civil War with matrimony (including a flower girl looking straight at them while holding a bouquet) as their backdrop. Iron Man drawn on the bride side, Captain America on the groom side. And if you still don’t get it, we have an alternate universe (specifically Earth-3490) where Tony Stark was born a woman and the only reason Civil War got averted was because Female Tony Stark got married to Captain America.
